Great price for what they serve. I usually get the dim sum and sticky rice for lunch if I am looking for a dim sum fix for 1 person. Shrimp dumpling, beef meat balls, pork dumpling, sticky rice or bean curd rolls are the usual available in the steamer for take out. The spareribs rice is also good.
Ask for the spicy oil if you like a bit more taste and a bit of kick.
I've yet to try the frozen packs that they sell. I'll update when I've tried them.
Make sure to go early, dim sum in steamer sell out fast, most stuff are out usually by 2:00pm. -

Food taste horrible and chewy as they continue to sell dim sum in the steamer that's been sitting there for ages.
Cheap and cheerful though. Seating is extremely minimal so normally we do takeaway.
Its not to best but will satisfy a craving. -

For us, dimsum is an ultimate comfort food and perfect midnight snacks, specially when you crave for something savory rather than resorting to sweets. Frozen dimsum is a staple in our freezer. And we know that all frozen dimsum are not created equal. We hit the jackpot when we found Kam Wai dimsum.
Our favorites are the "usual suspects": siu mai, har gouw, bbq pork bun, the sticky rice wrap, and the beef ball. And recently we found shrimp and crabmeat dumplings that are very good!
We also like the beef tripes in satay sauce, the spare ribs, and also the beancurd wrap. We feel that beancurd wrap can use some sort of sauce, so we just make a quick oyster sauce and a bit of thickened broth to pour over it at home.
They also have warm, ready to eat dimsum if you want to have a quick bite to eat. A very limited seating in the corner of the shop.
Parking is always an issue around the area though, specially on the weekend. The owners are super nice and friendly, and they give discounts for a purchase over certain amount of $. -

Dim sum has gotten pricey over the years. So when I found Kam Wai, with reasonably priced take out dim sum, I couldn't wait to try.
They offer the basics: prawn pockets, siu mai, beef balls, and my favorite, the lotus leaf rice cake. All selling for an appetizing $3.50/portion.
Most good dim sum restaurants are charging up to $6+ per dish. The difference?... Kam Wai is lacking in quality. The meatballs and pork dumplings are clearly padded with filler, and lack key elements such as shitake mushrooms, and green onions, or even ginger.
However, I did really enjoy the generously sized rice cake with mixed meat filling.
If you want to show off Vancouver's food scene to out of town guests, go somewhere else. Definitely get your baos from Newtown. If you want a filling meal at a cheap price, this works just fine. -

A great place if you want a quick breakfast. I came here with a friend came here one morning for the har gow and the pork buns. It was super cheap and super delicious! We liked the shrimp dumplings a lot more than the bbq bun. The bun was a little flat and the sauce was too sweet for my taste, but it was still good. The shrimp were fat and fresh. Next time I'd just get the har gow!
